The Chacoan World

The above picture shows the Three Mesas region of northern Arizona.  In the 8th, 9th and 10th centuries it made up a large portion of the Ancestral Pueblo’s world. Today it is home to the Hopi Nation.

The center of  the Ancestral Pueblo’s world was Chaco Canyon, NM. The Great Houses of Chaco Canyon were used for food storage and distributing centers. The Great Kivas were used for religious rituals and celebrations during the Time of Soyala and Niman.  The Chacoan influence stretched from Chimney Rock in southern Colorado to the trading center of Paquime’ in northern Mexico.
